Instant orthodontics is a faster, more convenient solution for orthodontic problems. However, not all patients are ideal candidates for instant orthodontics treatment. If alignment problems are severe, and if the health of the teeth or gums is likely to be compromised by these problems, then traditional orthodontic treatment is recommended. For patients whose concerns are primarily cosmetic and for those whose teeth and gums are free of decay and other oral health problems, instant orthodontics is likely a great treatment option.
The Treatment Process
Instant orthodontics enhances the smile and addresses the cosmetic side effects of misalignment through the application of porcelain veneers. The cosmetic improvement is considered “instant” because treatment can typically be completed in just two dental appointments. At the initial appointment, the teeth will be prepared for treatment and the porcelain veneers will be designed. Porcelain veneers can be customized by color, shape, and size, so treatment will actually improve all aspects of the smile, not just alignment.
After preparing the teeth by removing a small amount of tooth enamel (in order to accommodate the veneers), molds will be taken of the teeth. These molds and the specifics for the veneers will be sent to a dental lab for fabrication. Temporary veneers will be placed while the final restorations are made. At the second dental appointment, the completed porcelain veneers will be bonded to the teeth and patients will benefit from a newly straight, beautiful smile.
In some cases, a straight, attractive smile can be achieved by only treating a few teeth with porcelain veneers. In these cases, Dr. Gooch may be able to create the veneers in-office with our CEREC machine. For these patients, treatment can be complete in just a single day, truly offering the most “instant” orthodontic treatment available.
